The difference between account and profile
The account stores the minimum information that we collect about you, your user name, your name and your password. This information allows you to login to innohub (and to any other PMC owned website/service). We do not need to collect more information in order to allow you to enter innohub. This minimum information is either provided by you during registration, or collected by us automatically (except the password) from your social accounts that you are used to register/login to innohub.
Some of our content/services requires more information about you. As example, in order to allow you to buy items from our digital store, we would need your billing address. This additional info is stored in your buyer profile. This means that your account keeps the minimum information needed for logging in, while the profile keeps the information needed in order to provide you with a specific content/service. As conclusion, you will have a single account and, depending on what content/services you will choose to have access to, one or more profiles. No worries, managing your profiles is our job, we will not complicate your life with this while we will strictly respect your privacy.
What is the purpose of the account update function
The main function is to allow you to update the account information (email and password). Your username cannot be modified once created. So, by accessing the related page of innohub, you will be allowed to do the updates as you want.
It is important to know that, if you used social accounts to register/login to innohub, you would need to create a password for your account since we are using the social accounts only for the purpose of confirming your identity and for collecting your name and email. We never collect your social accounts password. Also, even more important, when you create reset your innohub account password, this will not affect your social account data and password because we never push information to your social account.
Your privacy is of high importance to us. For this reason, even for the minimum information that we need to have in your innohub account, we are offering you the option to decide if you want to make it public within the innohub community. This feature is also provided through the innohub account page. Additionally, you have the option to decide if the search engines (such as Google) are allowed to index the web page that contains your account. In any case, do not worry, indexing a page does not mean that the search engines can access your account information, it means that the page can (or not) be included in their indexes.
At your convenience, you can always use the your innohub account page in order to erase your personal information, we are offering this feature also. Please be informed that such erasure does not mean that your account is removed from innohub, it means that all information except your email, password and user name will be erased. You can fill it in again whenever you want.
Of course, the other features that we are offering to you for managing your account information are changing your password and completely removal of your account. Please be informed that, for both these actions, you will be required to enter your innohub account password, regardless of the fact that you are already logged in. If you did not create your innohub password (that can happen when you are using only social accounts to enter innohub) or you forgot your password, you have to go through the reset password action first (this action requires email confirmation).
